When Valuable Expertise Stays Hidden
Like many associations, COSPRA was never short on member expertise. Its challenge was making that expertise accessible.
Before implementing Tradewing, the association relied on a combination of Wild Apricot and email listservs to facilitate communication. While those tools enabled information sharing, they often made meaningful collaboration difficult to sustain.
Questions would be sent through email. Responses would arrive in separate threads. Valuable insights were quickly buried beneath newer messages.
As Jonathan explained,”Before, we used Wild Apricot and a listserv. Our members would continually receive emails from folks, and those would get lost in their inboxes. There wasn’t a central location for people to share information and chat with one another.”
For an organization built around professional collaboration, the issue wasn’t communication, it was continuity. Members needed a place where conversations could remain accessible, where knowledge could be preserved, and where relationships could develop beyond individual email exchanges.
Creating a Place Where Professionals Help Each Other
School public relations is a profession built on shared learning. Many communications leaders find themselves navigating situations that are highly nuanced, time-sensitive, and difficult to solve alone. In those moments, having access to peers who understand the context can be invaluable.
Tradewing provided COSPRA with a centralized environment where those interactions could happen naturally.
Today, members use the platform to ask questions, exchange ideas, seek recommendations, and learn from one another’s experiences. Discussions range from communications strategy and crisis management to technology decisions, vendor evaluations, and community engagement initiatives.
What makes these interactions particularly valuable is their immediacy. Members don’t need to wait for the next conference or professional development session to access expertise. They can tap into the collective knowledge of the community whenever challenges arise.
As Jonathan described it, “Whenever a member has a question about a particular situation—whether it’s how to market to a specific audience or how to approach a difficult crisis situation—members come in and share advice, tips, and what they’ve seen work in their own organizations. We love that peer-to-peer idea sharing.”
For many members, that ongoing access to professional insight has become one of the most meaningful aspects of the association experience.
Turning Individual Knowledge Into Collective Value
One of the most powerful outcomes of an engaged community is its ability to capture knowledge and make it accessible to others.
COSPRA has used Tradewing to build a growing library of practical resources that members can leverage in their daily work. According to Jon, the association shares communication templates, social media guidelines, and other materials that help professionals respond to real-world situations more efficiently.
The platform also supports a dedicated School PR Tools & Tech Hub, where members openly discuss technologies, vendors, and platforms they are evaluating or actively using within their organizations.
These conversations help members make more informed decisions while benefiting from the firsthand experiences of their peers.
Over time, this combination of discussion and resource sharing has created something larger than a content repository. It has become a living knowledge base shaped by the experiences of professionals working across Colorado’s education community.
Strengthening Connections Across the State
With members spread across Colorado, maintaining meaningful local engagement has always been important.
Tradewing allows COSPRA to support both statewide collaboration and regional connection through dedicated groups organized around different parts of the state.
Regional leaders use these spaces to facilitate discussions, coordinate activities, and foster relationships among members in their areas, while still keeping everyone connected to the broader association community.
The result is a more flexible engagement model—one that strengthens local participation without creating disconnected silos.
Members can engage with peers facing similar regional challenges while continuing to benefit from the expertise and perspectives of the statewide network.
Extending Engagement Beyond Events
Events remain an important part of the COSPRA experience, particularly the association’s annual conference. But for the organization, engagement is no longer limited to the days members spend together in person.
Tradewing allows COSPRA to manage event registration, attendee participation, and conference information within the same platform members use throughout the year. This creates a more seamless experience for attendees while reducing administrative complexity for organizers.
The shift has been particularly valuable for conference planning teams, who now have greater visibility into registrations, participation, and event logistics without relying on separate systems. More importantly, conversations that begin at conferences can continue long after the event concludes, helping members remain connected between major gatherings.
